'Twas a time of dread! The land, once so fair, now ravaged by the greatest
pestilence since the time of The Black Wanderer and The Unborn One.
Three thousand years have passed, years in which the once beautiful land has
been all but destroyed.
For three thousand years nothing has been heard of The Mysterious Stranger
but now on a dark, wet and windy night he returns. To you, a descendent of
the 'Singer of the Song'. You, a mere child, still flush with the vigour of
youth. To you he comes. You who have done nothing remotely heroic in all
of your seventeen years.
The Stranger tells you that when the Black Wanderer sowed the seed of The
Unborn One, so too did he sow another seed..... the one which would lie
dormant until the time was ripe for it to burst forth. As the seed lay dormant,
however, it matured and then mutated. It divided and became many and called
itself LEGION though it was more than just one being. It was many, it was
Legion and through its numbers it would gather strength. The multi-faceted
evil then spawned upon the land, but it spawned far to the east, far beyond
the Eagleshorn, beyond Darklen Moor, beyond the borders of the realm, in
the unknown reaches of the place known as the Saddest Lands.
The Mysterious Stranger tells you that although the Silent Song has been lost,
it too has mutated. It has mutated within YOU.... into something more than
what it was. But he cannot tell you what. That is for you and you alone to
discover. He leads you to the giant bird Sebac, who is to carry you over the
Eagleshorn to the realm of Legion and there he bids you farewell. You must
now set out upon the giant bird in the direction of Legion and there do what
you will to stop the evil spreading to the west.......
And so, Sebac sets you down upon the Plain of the Uninvited and with a
last, lingering glance in your direction, soars into the blue sky and vanishes
over the golden horizon...........

out over the sea towards a small island that lies many miles out in the damp
mist. The waves pound mercilessly onto the ravaged shore, sending a stinging
salt spray into your tired and weary eyes. A track leads off northward.

You find yourself struggling on a narrow pathway that leads over a high
gorge. The pathway is barely a foot wide and seems to meander gently down
to the sea. The pathway here is very rocky and the slightest sound seems to
echo around the gorge causing strange ripples of sound through the air. Paths

there. A tiredness seems to be creeping over you as if these mists were

domain of Legion. Strange etheric mists swirl about, cold and clammy to
the skin. The land itself is devoid of features or even life. As you gaze about
you can see in front of you the Empty Souls, massing to protect their evil
masters. The only way lies south.

As though a demarcation line had been crossed, the Forgotten Hills end
somewhat abruptly in these eerie Shadowlands, an area of mist, darkness
and strange elusive sounds. You somehow get the feeling that many eyes are
watching you and you walk quietly and with great care through these
forgotten lands. Paths turn north and south here.

The swamp here is really dangerous. You sink even more into the mire and
find it quite difficult to keep going. You can see that to the south, beyond th
swamp, lies much drier land. Paths lie north and south.

Little can be seen within this dank, dark cave which appears to have lain
undisturbed for long centuries past. The remains of an ancient fire lie upon
the cave floor while the walls of the cave appear to be lined with scratch
markings. The only pathway is to the north.

You are trudging wearily through the Forgotten Hills, the hill country of these
southern parts. A well-trodden pathway winds east through a narrow valley
while another heads south into a much darker and more mysterious realm. The
only other way lies north.

though turning into a boggy marshland. The valley continues east and west
although, to the east, the hills flatten somewhat as the valley runs into what
appears to be a fen-land.

The hills here run into dangerous swampland. As yet, it is not too bad but as
your gaze turns south you can see that it becomes much worse. Your feet sink
into the soaking ground as you struggle forward. The only obvious safe ground
lies west and south.

You stand high amid the peaks of the Great Wall, a mist hovering thickly
around you like a cloying smoke. It is dense and rather distasteful. You seem
to be standing on a small ledge in front of a cave entrance. Be warned!
Further climbing could be detrimental to your health. A track wends south.

Here the plain enters some low-lying foothills which roll gently into some
higher hill country to the south. The aridity of the plain seems to lessen as
the greenery becomes more obvious. Tall shadows lengthen across the
rolling slopes. Tracks lead north and south.

You stand at the foot of the Great Wall staring up at the completely sheer
face of these heights. No hand or footholds can be found. Pitons and ropes
are the only way up but you don't seem to be carrying them. It may be
advisable to go and look for such items before venturing further here. The
path runs north from the cliff face.

Here stands an ancient, stone wishing well, the brickwork crumbling to
dust even as you stare at it. By the look of the well it has been standing
here for thousands of years, perhaps even dating back to the halcyon
years of the land's youth when all was fresh and fair and untarnished by
the evil of men. From the well, the only way lies to the north.

You are travelling wearily upon a broad north-south roadway which runs
down towards the Great Wall Mountains, a range that cuts angrily across
the land like jagged teeth. It is widely known that these mountains are
unscalable without special climbing gear. Perhaps you should head north to
relative safety again.

appears serene and quiet, as though no danger could possibly lurk beneath
its quiescent surface. But beware! Tales tell of suffering and death within
these silent depths. The trail leads north from here.

This Plain stretches south towards the Forgotten Hills and due east into the
Saddest Lands. The Plain is devoid of life, even the most stubborn of weeds
refuse to grow here. Truly a desolate and anguished place that owes much of
of its desolation to that which has infested the land in ages past. The Black
Wanderer and the madness of the Unborn One. A pathway winds west through
the dust.

Here is a dark wood, a lost and desolate place of tree and log. Telgarath,
once so proud and majestic, now rotting and festering like some discarded
relic. Ah! What has happened to the land? What evils gnaw away at these
trees, causing them to crumble and die? Take care, traveller, all is not well
in this realm. Overgrown trails lead west and south through the wood.

Rising majestically out of the Saddest Lands are these towering Mystic
Peaks, so named by the ancients because it is rumoured that none who enter
these mountains ever return. A pathway meanders east while a much less
used route heads north, higher into these mighty peaks. The other trail heads
due south.

Nothing grows in this strangely silent place but the atmosphere seems laden
with dread. You could cut it with a knife. The only path leads south again.
